John J. Macreedy doesn't know it, but when he steps off the train at the jerkwater town of Black Rock, he will soon find himself the object of fear, hatred, and even a murder plot! The altruistic Macreedy came to Black Rock to hand over a posthumous military award to a local man whose son had died gallantly in the Second World War. What Macreedy couldn't know when he stepped off of that train was that the town had a shameful secret, one that must be kept at all costs.

A DVD film Bad Day at Black Rock that feels like a bad foot with Tracy West in the town was a high-speed train. It was around 1945 so that nobody packing heat. Walter Breen is the town veterinarian and mortician, but look and talk about what I was different to use. Marvin Borgnine and perform their functions bad. The Bad Day at Black Rock Western movie is the first in my memory when an armed man in a garbage exceeds ordinary man (see also Brave Lonely Åre Bill Raisch, where later a gunman in the Kirk Douglas gives a fugitive whooping). Tracy is excellent as a man on a noble mission, but uncertain for more information on the death of a Japanese who is somehow connected. There is not really much here about responsibility and courage seems to me a little Harken back to High Noon. Robert Ryan preparing to play Wyatt Earp to the enemy is good as a quiet, normal psycho. Note that John Ericson and Ann Francis was not to get married soon or not incest. The lesson here is when he traveled to Black Rock as a people come by car and driver waiting.
After an average DivX Movie Bad Day at Black Rock and nothing to be released in the cinema (Euro 2000) was an unexpected joy. It is more neo-neo-noir Western. It creates the claustrophobic tension and feelings of anger and racism perfectly. Aided by an excellent cast. Perfect length, perfect composition and history uncertain climax. Good stuff.
John Sturges directed essentially built this brief masterpiece. This is how it was done in the good old days: nothing left by the wayside. Strong, clear characterizations, with minimal dialogue, costumes, shape, facial expression and everything that reflects the inner life of people in their self-built hell. Take a look at how Hector (Lee Marvin) uses the word "boy" to suggest racial nuances long before the plot slowly revealed history, how Macreedy (Spencer Tracy), in his dark suit and no nonsense manner contrasts with the rest Casual attire and the edginess that perfectly reflects its role as avenging angel, how Coley (Ernest Borgnine), trying to run the road Macreedy, resembles (probably not) Joe McCarthy, especially as caricatured by Walt Kelly, and course how the arch-villain, Reno Smith (Robert Ryan), suggests its almost unlimited power and inimitable smirk languid movements are controlled by the city, doing nothing really open - Macreedy to force his hand. Bonito become actions of other great players, too: Dean Jagger (the drunken Sheriff Tim), Anne Frances (Liz nervous), and Walter Brennan (talkative, self-justifying Doc). The suggestion that a man can - literally without assistance - to make a moral difference is inspiring (and how a party totally confused Coley is an elegant, low key precursor of Bruce Lee-inspired acrobatics). This is a keeper.
Spencer Tracy heads a large cast in this drama that is so admired in the West. It's a little treat to see Tracy and Robert Ryan in the film, with scenes together. Two truly first-class veterans, with an exemplary career acting achievements. The tight script, solid direction (by John Sturges), a strong score (by André Previn) Cinemascope outstanding combine to elevate the picture "Bad day at Black Rock" to a place among the great films. You really can not apprecitate this Bad Day at Black Rock Western in a regular-sized pan and scan the screen, and even the letterbox version not adequately convey the impact of its original filing moviehouse Cinemascope. One can only try to imagine today the original. However, a fine that could exceed the format of film, and "bad day" still packs a punch Whopper.
